First HUM Talk seminar on March 25th by Dr. Iclal Vanwesenbeeck

HUM Talks is a space where academics from a variety of disciplines can share their recent research in an informal setting. Given the multidisciplinary nature of the Humanities, we believe that HUM Talks will offer the opportunity to share our common intellectual and social concerns with both students and other faculty.

The first HUM Talks seminar hosted Dr. Iclal Vanwesenbeeck on March 25th, 2019 with her talk entitled "Modernity and Tradition in Iceland: When Bjork Names her Baby". Dr. Vanwesenbeeck walked us through the paradox of tradition and modernity in Iceland by providing background information on social, political, environmental characteristics of Iceland. She gave narrative examples from literature on Iceland's past image and then mentioned Iceland's century-long modernization process, and how Iceland reconciles tradition and modernity today.
